christmas eve
3:01 p.m. - 12.24.02

ken's party was great.

all the food was eaten.

all 25 spinach pies went. ken also had a huge wheel of brie (also gone) topped with blackberries and surrounded by apple slices and grapes. he also made yummy hummus from scratch and roasted 2 tenderloins, one with cloves and, well, i don't know what the other was prepared with because i didn't try it.

matt went with me and laura came over also. matt said he liked talking with ken more, and his roommate and friends are cool. ken's son was over and stayed up until 9. the guys kicked the soccer ball around with him and matt and abe spun him in his favorite 'spinning' chair until he couldn't stand up straight.

mike had presents for everyone! he gave everyone comic books, and laura a whoopie cushion. we all had stupid fun with that gift, especially with ken's son.

later in the evening Patrick came with two good looking guys from florence, italy. patrick is a regular at ken's restaurant, so i thought it was cool to see him at the party. patrick works in the drawings dept. at the art museum, and i guess that's how he knows these two italian guys. it was fun to talk with them. everyone laughed when i told them i knew a little italian, and all i said was 'Ciao' with a sheepish smile on my face.

matt and i were the first ones to leave and the italians were right behind us in the farewell line to ken. ken gave me a big hug (we huged a few times that night. it was nice). as ken was saying good bye to the guys a pulled out his christmas present and slipped it to him as i left. it's just a little blank journal. when ken invited me for coffe the first time to talk about partnering together he chuckled when i pulled out my notebook while he showed me his. 'looks like we are both addicted to notebooks.' i know his is getting used up, because he uses it whenever we discuss business. so, i got him a blue book with an orange sticker on it -- 'our' colors for our company.

he has his son today, then he has to work tonight. his restaurant is even open tomorrow.

tonight my mom and brother and i have our annual christmas eve party down the street at mom's - shrimp cocktail (i'm allergic), cheese puffs with raspberry-chipotle dipping sauce, and spinach/artichoke bruschetta.

the party is usually a reunion of old highschool friends. the same group has been coming over since the late 80's as well. we used to sit around and complain about teachers and homework. now we sit around and complain about jobs and bills. i remember when i drom matt and his friend kim to school, only for them to leave to go back to her house to smoke her mom's pot an hour later. tonight kim will be with her husband Glen and their 2 year old son Malique. they are trying to buy a house in a very 'quaint,' small town so glen can be close to his job. they got turned down - they are investigating to make sure that being a 'mixed couple' has anything to do with the rejection.

eddie used to come by, now he's married with 2 kids in Korea. maria and tina used to come over late (because they would start their shopping at 6 p.m.), but now they live in Greece. we will make our annual party phone call to them so they don't feel left out.

everyone have a good holiday.
