the ONLY for US
10:17 p.m. - 09.24.03

like i said, i've been busy getting out the word about Dennis. this is the speech i gave - reasons why Dennis Kucinich is the ONLY choice for President.

This great country of ours, the land I am proud to call home, was founded on simple, pure principles: peace, freedom and prosperity. We became an independent and great Nation, because a small group of people organized and dissented against an occupying empire. OUr history proves to us that small groups of great patriots can do great things. It was grass roots organizations who made this counry great. Without these once small groups of concerned and brave citizens, women would not have careers, 18 year old troops would be dying for a country where they have no vote, and blacks would still have to drink out of different water fountains.

Our current leaders are not concerned about peace. Peace does not make money for weapons manufactures and oil companies that donated millions of dollars to the Bush Army of millionaires. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld (the list goes on) have been quoted that they have 'misspoke' on WMD, Iraq and Al-Queda so many times, it is almost impossible to keep track. And people don't keep track. We are so disillusioned by the political machine we don't even vote. We just watch the television in fear and disgust. This just isn't the Bush Administration's fault. We know that well-financed politicians have been governing this country without concern for the common people for years.

This current administration is not concerned about freedom. The Patriot Act directly contradicts the First Amendment, and the most damaging legislation for civil liberties in US history. It is also so loosely constructed, that they can label ANYONE as a domestic terrorist if they do not support this corporate war. Any of us can be classified as a terroist right now. Heaven help you if you went to a demonstration, or clicked on the Al-Jazerra website.

Bush is not concerned about prosperity, at least for the common folk. He has set a speed record for turning the highest surplus in US history into the largest deficit in history, to the tune of 9 trillion dollars, while at the same time the wealthiest US citizens have increased their fourtuenes.

This country is in DESPERATE need of someone to work for US, and now is the time to decide. But who? We do have choices now, in fact, ten. But which one is REALLY right for the job?

I say Dennis Kucinich!

Time and time again people have told me the same thing, "Yea, he's got great ideas, but when he doesn't win, vote for Kerry, vote for Liberman, vote for Gephardt, vote for Dean, vote for Clark", and that's when I ask WHY?

All ten of them say they stand for the same things: anti-war and real change in domestic policy.

Why should I vote for Kerry, Liberman or Gephardt who voted FOR the War and FOR the Patriot Act? Dennis is the only candidate, and one of the VERY few on Capitol Hill who had the courage and intelligence to vote against it.

Why should I vote for Gen. Clark, who was hand-picked, and now well-financed and well-coached by the Clinton Team; the very group that supported NAFTA. NAFTA is THE trade agreement that stole jobs away from my family. NAFTA told my Aunt and Uncle, who dedecated their labor to Joesph and Feiss for 25 YEARS, "we don't need you anymore, we found non-taxpaying, non-US citizens to work for us for lower wages." And, we all know that just didn't happen to my family, NAFTA told this entire Nation that there is no concern for a US citizen's living wage and job security. Dennis is the ONLY candidate who wants to end NAFTA, and has a voting record 98% pro-labor. Ending NAFTA is one of his first prioritys.

And, why should I vote for Dean, a well-financed, millionaire Governor (haven't we tried this one before???) who has denied his public statements about raising the retirement age (while Dennis wants to lower back to 65), who has no plans to decrease the inflated military budget and has no real plan for universal health care?

"Dean exclaimed he supported a multi-lateral invasion, but hardly questioned the disinformation spewed from the White House about Iraq's threat to our national security.....his recent remarks that Iraq simply needs more troops for the ongoing occupation. (Counterpunch

Also, Dean has received an "A" rating by the NRA? Just take a guess who is helping finance his campaign.

And, speaking of campaign finance, Dennis is the only candidate not taking corporate money in profiteering, opportunistic sweetheart deals. Are you wondering why you don't see much coverage of Dennis in the newspapers and moring talk shows? papers, radio and TV are run by huge corporations, which need to be sure that they will be well-represented by any candidate that will promise them that after they hand over the check.

That is the most important reason I am voting for Dennis. For once in my lifetime, I don't want a White House that answers to Time/Warner, the NRA, Wal-Mart, Halliburton or Enron first. Dennis supports only TWO business contract - THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE and the US Constitution. We are a Nation to be governed by the people for the people. It does not say a Nation to be sponsored by corporations for profit.

Dennis fought the 'Enron of his day which derailed his career to ensure that Clevelanders had affordable energy. Dennis has never sold out, nor will he ever. I ask all of you - who do you know personally that would conciously risk their job and endure years of scrutiny from both peers and higher, richer powers? Who do you actually know with that much conviction and courage? Can you really think of someone you know? If you can, then tell them about the candidate that upholds their good values.

When I was 6, my mother sat me down in front of the tv so I could see and remember Dennis stand on the bank's steps shouting that he will not sell out this city. I saw Dennis march to save Saint Michael's hospital, 3 years ago and this week. I've seen Dennis at local art openings, and Dennis sat 4 rows in front of me at the Cedar-Lee to see Bowling for Columbine.

This country is in crisis, and there is only one man brave to offer to us real change while refusing fat corporate checks at the same time. How hard would it be for you to turn down a check for a million dollars? Dennis is only asking us to help him, because he only wants to help us. Dennis is the ONLY candidate risking his bid to the White House by relying only on our help. That is why he is the only one who deserves it.
