affirmative action
6:48 a.m. - 04.02.03

yuck - i have a cold. i also have a meeting with an editor of one of the magazines to discuss the art gallery. oh, how i wish i felt better, or the meeting was tomorrow.

there's a peace jam meeting tonight as well. we'll see how i feel later. natasha, alex and brandon (new friends in the peace movement) went to DC yesterday for the affirmative action march.

i am not quite sure if i have a definite stance on affirmative action. i think it gets corrupted just as any social action. i also believe that there are many people out there who want affirmative action to carry a bad reputation. i think that's the whole point of this going on.

ok - the michigan univ. thing: where you are awarded points for being non-white. but you also get certain points if you live in the state, if you live out of state, if your parents went there, if you play sports. why didn't the plaintiffs sue the cities that they are from for 'geographical discrimination' - because they got less points for living in a certain area.

i dunno - i was fully aware of the quotas when i went to school -- i knew i had to apply early because i didn't want to get overlooked if they already filled their quota for in-state students. i know they also considered that i was low-income.

why don't these plaintiffs complain that you get the highest points if you play a sport - you get like 30 friggin points.

ya know how many points you get if you write an 'EXCEPTIONAL' essay???? - ONE LOUSY POINT.

ummm .... isn't college supposed to have something to do with literacy????????

if you are going to sue a school because you didn't get in, then sue the school for the admission process in general - blame physical education discrimination or something --- quit blaming it on the black students. sheesh.
