listening to public radio and writing on the pc - one of my favorite ways to spend the afternoon. wrote letter today to jen and bruce, my british friends i met in greece in oct. this letter i thanked them for their thoughtful package, which were special commemorative sections dedicated to the late Queen Mum. they are so awesome. i remember the first day i met them. i had been there for a few days already and just starting to meet some of the other travelers and locals. i was becoming a regular at dimitri's cafe and sitting there in the late afternoon watching cnn and bbc world. jen and bruce sat next to me and ordered what would be their first cocktail - they had just arrived from the airport. they are a retired couple - art and english, decendants of lord byron - i'm a decendant of robert burns - so we had something to chat about. they also met princes william and harry once as whey were building a sand castle. we spent most of that first meeting discussing the current events after 911. i saw them almost every night at the cafe. we shared some dinners together, and lotsa metaxa and mythos beer. some nights i was a little nervous about coming back home - especially when the anthrax scare started. i really thought it would only get worse. then jen held my hand and reassured me that things were going to be ok. then she and bruce started laughing, reminicing about the gasmasks that they had when they were in grade school during world war two.
"they tried to make them look less hideous by making them look more or less like mickey mouse,' said jen, emphasizing her story with a lean forward in her chair. "which turned our to be a most frightful sight of bumbling mice with goggles and hoses from their noses."
